Consortium publishes work in prestigious journal

The Surrey and Lyon research partners have published work showing how to make stratified coatings, in the prestigious journal Physical Review Letters. This method would shows a simple scaleable way to make steel coatings with different properties on their top and bottom surfaces. For example, they could have a soft sticky bottom surface to adhere well to the steel, combined with a hard top surface to resist scratches.

The work attracted considerable media attention. Physics ran an article on this work, as did 82 media outlets (at the time of writing). These were across Europe and the world. The CNRS put out a press release (French), as did the University of Surrey.
